    What are AIFs

    Privately pooled, professionally managed

AIFs are SEBI-regulated, privately pooled investment vehicles that invest in assets beyond traditional listed stocks and bonds. They are designed for investors with a higher risk appetite and longer horizons who want to diversify their wealth.

    • Category I — venture capital, SME, social and infrastructure funds.
    • Category II — private equity, private credit and real-estate funds.
    • Category III — long-short and other complex trading strategies.
    • Minimum investment of ₹1 crore as per SEBI regulations.

    FAQs

    Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Our advisors are happy to explain anything — no jargon, no pressure.

Risk disclosure: AIFs are high-risk, illiquid investments suited only to sophisticated investors. Returns are not guaranteed. Read the private placement memorandum carefully.
Who can invest in an AIF?

Resident Indians, NRIs and institutions meeting the minimum investment of ₹1 crore (lower for certain accredited investors and employees of the manager), subject to fund-specific eligibility.

    How long is the lock-in?

Close-ended Category I and II funds typically run 3–10 years. Category III funds may be open- or close-ended. Liquidity is limited, so invest only long-term money.

    How are AIFs taxed?

Category I and II AIFs enjoy pass-through status — income is taxed in investors' hands. Category III AIFs are generally taxed at the fund level. Consult your tax adviser for specifics.

    What fees do AIFs charge?

Usually a management fee plus a performance fee (carry) above a hurdle rate. We explain every cost line before you commit.
