Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Our advisors are happy to explain anything — no jargon, no pressure.
Can NRIs trade intraday in Indian stocks?
NRIs are generally permitted to take delivery-based positions in equities; intraday trading in the cash segment is not allowed for NRIs. F&O trading is permitted through an NRO account with a custodial participant code, subject to rules.
What is the difference between NRE and NRO investments?
Investments via an NRE account are fully repatriable; investments via an NRO account are non-repatriable beyond prescribed limits. The choice depends on the source of your funds.
Can NRIs invest in mutual funds?
Yes, most Indian mutual funds accept NRI investments. Some fund houses restrict investors from the US and Canada due to FATCA-related compliance.
Is TDS deducted on NRI capital gains?
Yes, TDS is deducted on capital gains at applicable rates. You may claim DTAA benefits based on your country of residence. Consult a tax adviser for your situation.
